With regard to your grooming question, please call Flathead County Parks at 758-5800 to find out if/when they plan to groom.

And thanks for the reminder to those not on skis to please avoid the tracks. It is indeed a courtesy to skiers.

    Happy Trails!

  2. Herron Park is the best says:

Great snow this past week. What happened to occassional grooming? I still have great fun skiing, however, I am asking fellow park users to not walk or snowshoe in ski tracks, a “share the trails” courtesy.

  3. Old Trail Dog says:

Hiked to the Overlook from the Notch Trail Sunday. The ice was coverred up by the new snow, didn’t need the Yaak Tracks. Won’t be long and we’ll be able to ski it!

  4. Ted says:

Had a nice hike to the lookout today. Still very little snow, and trails are very icy! We slipped a few times coming down even with yak trax on.

FTBT has new digital trail use counters in place. The pie chart shown on this page is for the
month leading up to December 22, 2011. As you may have observed,
the most popular days are Saturday and Sunday. Notice how consistent the
user numbers are for weekdays. This means that the FTBT trails have a consistent user base and that Herron Park is part of their daily lives.

Have a great New Year. Foy’s to Blacktail aims to add 50 more acres to the park in
2012, with your donations! Thank you for your support.

  7. Cliff and Moe says:

Had a great walk with Maurice yesterday. The parking lot was full, and there were a few cars down by the green gate, but shoot, I think we only saw about 3 people during the 2+ hours we were out there. Stables to Lower Horse to Scary Stump, up to Foy’s Overlook and down the new Notch trail. What a fabulous asset to this community!

  8. Ted says:

Had a nice walk with the dogs this morning in the snow. It’s amazing how serene it is up there even with several cars in the parking lot.

  9. FTBT says:

Congratulations to our 2011 raffle winners–Cary Saunders (Rocky Mountain Outfitter gift certificate); Dean Marsh (Bob Scriver bronze “Scent of Danger”; and Linda Putman (Ashley Lake getaway). Thanks to everyone to bought tickets, we raised nearly $4,000 toward the purchase of Phase 3 land. Thanks also to those who donated the raffle items!

    A GOOD DAY!

The other day I pondered where to go ride my mountain bike, but being the end of summer I was a little burnt out on all the valley trails but decided Herron was close so I’d get a fast work out.

I hadn’t ridden the Notch trail for a while and decided to go for it even though I really don’t like that hike a bike at the end…..boy what a whinner I am! Then as I’m riding towards the hike-a-bike I see a new trail has been cut. YAY! I think I might be one of the first to ride it and it wasn’t quite finished but you guys(gals) made my day. I’ve ridden it a few more times and it’s getting better all the time.

Thank you FTB for making my day!

Looks like the connector trail between the Notch and Foy’s Overlook trails is almost done! Rode that loop today, and there’s just a tiny section near the top of the connector that needs to be finished. Love the new overlook on the Notch Trail–and the new picnic table.

Great job on the new trail–thanks to volunteers, Montana Conservation Corps, and FTBT!

  14. FTBT says:

A rash of thefts occurred in the Foy’s Lake area in mid-September. At least one hiker had windows smashed and valuables stolen from her car while parked at the green gate.

Some steps you can take to avoid this:

    1. Always lock your vehicle, and don’t leave valuables in it (at least not in plain sight)
    2. Park in the parking lot, not the green gate. The Herron Park caretaker can much more easily keep an eye on vehicles in the parking lot.

Hopefully, the thieves have been caught.

  15. FTBT says:

Come help out on National Public Lands Day! Join Foy’s to Blacktail Trails and Montana Conservation Corps at Herron Park on Saturday October 1 to work on trails. Work begins at 9 AM, finishing at 1 PM with a cookout at the Lone Pine State Park pavilion.

    See you there!

    Questions? Call Erin at 770-310-6848.

  16. FTBT says:

A note to equestrians: The Foy’s to Herron Paddlethon takes place this Sunday morning, July 31. Part of the race takes place in Herron Park. Mountain bikers will be using the trails in and above the meadow from about 9:30-10:30 am.

Please avoid using the Horse Trail during that time, as bikers will be descending the trail. All the trails being used will be marked with yellow and black signs. Please yield to cyclists during the race.

Runners will also be running through the stable area (through the gate, north around the stable, and through the gate).

Thanks for your understanding. The proceeds from this race will be donated to Foy’s to Blacktail, helping to secure permanent access to these trails for all user groups.
